Daniel needs to be consistently decent, not even good, but just decent all season to redeem himself. What good is a P4 in a sprint race if it only happens once in a season? He didn't just have a "bad stint". He had a MISERABLE full season and one and a half bad ones. It's the opposite of people "forgetting". It's that people are constantly made to remember him and are finally getting tired of it.

  • @christopherdallenbach2524

I completely disagree with your opinion and of course you are entitled to it. Personally as a person Daniel is extremely likeable and nothing would be more amazing to see him make a massive comeback in terms of performance. With all that said he's been off his form for well over 4 years. Sure he's had a few glimmering moments of his past performances showing us that he's capable of being that amazing driver we know he's capable of being, but his lack of consistency is extremely damaging to the argument that he should keep his seat. Niko Hulkenburg took some time in a auxiliary role and came back better than ever and Personally this is what I think he needs right now more than anything. He needs time to access his lack of performance and really refine or reinvent his driving style to suit the new regulations. There are so many young talents that are waiting on the sidelines for their chance to shine and I think a little turnover is important for the health of a sport that demands the best from people that have spent their entire lives hoping for an opportunity.

He won the WDC in 2007, but what happened in 2008 (a lot of mechanical retirements and accidents -the one in Canada and Singapore) and in 2009 (in the second half he was totally good) and the early exit from Ferrari was a bit strange. That's why Kimi in 2012-2013 with Lotus made so happy. He was awesome and proved he is that good!

I think it's the drivers with the killer instinct, Max has it, Michael Schumacher's era most if not all the drivers had it, Jenson Button and Vettel too. Fernando and Lewis, I feel the two of them never were that kind of a driver.

also, I believe if you put an "pld school" driver in a modern car, it'd be the same as now. Imagine Clark or Senna, JTNAF.. racing till retirement. I think there is a lot to appreciate now. You just can't compare then and now, but in many ways you can in the drivers if you can just see it. You got to take the old glasses off. I find it opens ny eyes.

Kimi was a mixed bag. A ball of fire early in his career. And then he seemed to realize that he was paid to do a job and accepted that mentality. I had no hate for him doing that. It was a smart move. But the early Kimi kind of disappeared into the corporate F1 structure. Then he really hurt himself badly, during a rally event, while driving in rally off season. I mean Kimi really messed up his lower back. In ways he's never told anyone. I saw it in his lap times the season after he came back from that injury. It definitely impacted his performances ever since. But the sum total of Kimi, to me, is a guy who came in like a comet and flamed across the Formula One sky and did the best he could, as he saw fit. And that is why I will always respect Kimi Raikonnen. He did not give a damn what I thought, or what anyone else thought. Like the Frank Sinatra song, Kimi did it his way,. And it was entertaining as hell to watch happen . Thank you Kimi, for bringing the heat, every race, no matter what. You were awesome.

I had tears in my eyes when he won, and was so happy for him... until he called Trump his good luck charm. I'm from the USA. I belong to minorities that the Oompa Loompa from hell targets. I watched him appoint a Neo-N*zi delegate to the RNC in 2015. I lived through the hell of his presidency. F1 is supposed to be politically neutral. He never should have been allowed in the paddock.

I understand the hope you're feeling as a Danny Ric fan, and what it's like to see a beloved driver get piled on (whether justified or not). Trust me. I'm a Checo fan. I see Ricciardo as the opposite of Checo in terms of reputation. Both have had slumps, but one has been given the benefit of the doubt for a long, long time, whereas the other was crucified during a season where he won two races against prime-dominant Max Verstappen on level ground and came in second in the championship. Whether a driver's performance is waning or not, I'm not a fan of vicious pile-ons. There are respectful ways to discuss these things, and I'd like to see more of that in both fan-to-fan interactions and discussions of drivers whose careers may be coming to an end. Back on topic: one decent drive does not a comeback make. I can't judge whether Ricciardo has still Got It, just like I can't say for certain that Sainz should replace Checo. He hasn't proved his critics and doubters (of whom I am one) wrong yet, but that P4 is a decent start and I'm happy for his fans. Sorry for rambling. I don't have anyone to talk to about my favorite sport, so I talk too much in comments a lot of the time.

I think Ferrari or McLaren can win in 2026 and beyond. I dont trust RedBull without Newey and without Honda. Them working on their own engines doesnt sound good to me (weird ford financial backing but Ford wont oversee the actual engine progress)
